Boycott Beef

third case of mad cow was confirmed recently in Alabama. If you think your meat supply is safe from this disease, you might want to think again. This, while the government is cutting back on funds for testing.

My wife and I swore an oath when mad cow initially appeared in the states. We swore off eating beef until the Japanese allowed importation of American beef. Well, Japan allowed importation recently but with special provisions. A month or two later, they were delivered a box of spinal columns, whoops! Needless to say, they aren’t allowing any more beef from the US until we get our act straight.

We aren’t militant about it, we just avoid beef products but we eat/drink milk products regularly and we probably get by-products in our system regularly. Sure, we’re probably at a lower risk, but not immune. And, given how pervasive and indestructive prions are, it’s likely noone is immune (perhaps not even vegans, who may get it from fertilizers made from cattle).

I mean, come on, sure it’ll be expensive to test every cow (a-la Europe) but perhaps $1 burgers aren’t the best thing for our waistline, or our brains.
